2014 Tinker Bell Marathon Expo

So, it's the week following the Dopey Challenge and here I am in California for the 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend.  It seemed like a good idea when I registered and now that I'm here I am positive that it was a good idea.  The first couple of days after Dopey I was sore, but just normal sore and the worst part for me were the blisters on my feet.  Now I'm feeling really good and ready to go, but tired like I need more sleep!

The 2013 Disneyland Half Expo was complete madness and I was curious about how this expo was going to go.  The past two years this was a super easy experience - would it be that way this time?  The expo was scheduled to open at 2:00pm.  Since I was staying at the Disneyland Hotel I didn't have far to go, but I knew I'd better head down early, so I did at 12:20pm.  They changed things up a bit this time anticipating the crowds.  New Balance of course had their sign up stations - I heard a few minutes later that the people had appointments three hours later - no thank you.  As much as I like the Cinderella shoes, that's just something I won't do, especially when it's not a brand I wear and I don't even know if I would want to walk around in them much less run in them.  Enough about that though.

Everyone was directed to head downstairs to line up for packet pick up and official merchandise.  I headed down and they did have two separate line areas set up for packet pick up and official merchandise.  Of course, I got in line for the official merchandise.  I was wearing my Dopey I Did It shirt - of course I want to brag a bit.  Now I'm going to be standing in line for an hour and half so I can spend money...Sigh.  Lots of people just want Dooney & Burke bags.  Me, I did that for Dopey and thank goodness I'm not a fan of green so I have no desire to get this one.  As I'm standing there, someone taps me on the shoulder.  I turn around and a lady asks me if I did Dopey.  I said I did and she congratulated me and asked what I was doing this weekend.  The 5K, 10K and Half.  She just gushes about how proud of me she is and how impressed she is.  Now, I know I am overweight and don't look like I can do a 5K much less Dopey, but I have to mention that I'll be doing my 50th runDisney event on Sunday during the Tinker Bell Half.  She acts as if she just can't believe it.  Regardless, I thank her for her kindness and wish her luck for the weekend.

The runDisney officials started moving us at about 1:30pm where they took us upstairs and put us in more lines right outside the official merchandise area.  This lead to more talk about Dopey and New Balance with other people.  It passed the time and they let us in at 1:45pm.  It was still a bit crowded, but not bad.

I was able to grab a pin, a key chain, another vinylmation and the vinylmation medal, a 10K shirt and a pink Coast to Coast shirt.  I got in line to pay and didn't have to wait more than a minute or two.  As I'm checking out the Cast Member told me that they let Cast Members in early to shop.  I wonder how I would have found out about that, but honestly, I don't mind being with the masses.  It's part of the experience.

The expo was open so I wandered around, but I didn't end up buying anything.  I headed back downstairs to get my packets.  I hit the 10K pick up first.  As I was waiting in line one of the volunteers at another line saw my shirt and said, "we have a Dopey Finisher in the house!" and everyone started clapping and cheering.  Wow, that was pretty fun too!  Then an older lady behind me started chatting with me and she is doing her very first 10K this weekend and she's working up to a half marathon.  She said she'd get down on her knees and bow, but she wouldn't be able to get back up.  I laughed and told her that wasn't necessary and that she'd be there one day.  How sweet she was.

I got my 10K bib and pin, then I headed over to get my Half bib and pin and finally my 5K bib and pin.  I realized that I didn't get a card for my half necklace so I headed over to Commemorative Items and had no problem getting my necklace.

Of course, shirt and bag pick up are upstairs so I headed back up to get all three shirts.  There were really no lines for any of the shirts so I was done quite quickly and weighed down with all my stuff.  I was done with all of this by 3:00pm so the changes worked and made things easier for sure.
