2013 Walt Disney World Family Fun Run 5K

The 2013 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Expo was held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports and I attended on the Thursday evening, the day before the 5K so that I could pick up all my bibs, commemorative items, goody bags, etc...

I arrived early at Epcot, parked and headed towards the staging area to meet up with some friends.

I was in corral C, but moved back to corral D so that I could start with Rae since it was her first runDisney 5K.  After what always seems like forever, we were off!

The course was crowded, but nothing too bad.  It didn't seem like there were a lot of characters out and the ones that were out had the longest lines I had seen in a long time.  Still we enjoyed our stroll through the park!

After we were done we decided to get in line to get our picture taken with Minnie and Mickey Mouse.  Tip, if you see huge lines before the race to get a picture, take a look after the race as the characters are usually out and the lines aren't always as long.

Weekly Review: October 21 - 27, 2013

Monday
PM Workout:  Bike 7.8mi, 15.7mph avg, resistance level 3
Notes:  Legs felt tired tonight which I wasn't expecting.  Need to get over my failure of the weekend and move forward.

Tuesday
PM Workout:  Treadmill run/walk 2.54mi @ 14:10 per mi
Notes:  Good hard workout tonight.  Looking forward to testing myself this weekend.

Wednesday
PM Workout:  Elliptical 1.52mi, ramp incline 25%, resistance level 1
Notes:  Sleepy feet tonight, still got a good workout in.

Thursday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 3.21mi @ 14:01 per mi
Notes:  Great workout tonight even though my heel was unhappy with me.

Friday
PM Workout: Treadmill walk 3mi @ 15:47 per mi
Notes:  Okay, kept this light and easy since I've got big miles coming up.  Felt pretty good.

Saturday

Notes: This was tough tonight, but I hung in through the miles.

Sunday
PM Workout: Treadmill walk 20mi @ 18:27 per mi
Notes:  This was one long slow slog today.  It took everything I had to keep going for this long on the treadmill.  There were the mandatory stops when the treadmill shuts off (every 1hr 40min) and a few sanity breaks to walk around off the treadmill, but I did it.  It wasn't pretty and it was way too slow, but I got it done when I couldn't last week.  The last time I did 20 miles or more was in January 2012 so I have to remember that.

Training Notes
After last week's failed long run I decided that I would move the next back to back long runs to this week.  It also took some pressure off since Wine and Dine is that weekend as well.  I'm very proud that I did the miles.

Yes, I'm proud, but I still know how much work I have left to do before January.  My speed still isn't where I want it or need it to be.  Now, I did not push the speed on my 20 miler because I knew I hadn't done this type of mileage since early last year.  I just have to continue plugging along on this and have faith in the training plan.

Last time I said that I was concerned about January's Dopey Challenge.  Trust me when I say I still am, but it helps me know that I can push myself through this mileage.  I also had an epiphany and realized that I had a 2012 half marathon time to submit for a better corral placement for Dopey and it was accepted by runDisney - it may only be one corral up from the last corral, but I'll take any extra time I can get.

I feel like I've been better with food, but I'm not seeing or feeling any results.  It's a tough thing for me right now and I know getting weight off will only help me.  I will continue to work on this.

Weekly Review: October 14 - 20, 2013

Monday
PM Workout:  Elliptical 1.03mi, resistance level 1, ramp incline 20%
Notes:  Felt good overall.  My left heel is confusing - I have great no pain days and then days where it aches all the time.

Tuesday
PM Workout:  Treadmill run/walk 2.14mi @ 14:01 per mi
Notes:  Tried doing 30 second run/30 second walk intervals and going faster.  Not quite ready to go faster yet apparently.

Wednesday
PM Workout:  Bike 7.9mph avg, 15.8mph avg, resistance level 3
Notes:  Great ride, bu I'm feeling tired.  Never regret a workout though.

Thursday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.28mi @ 14:02 per mi
Notes:  Great run/walk today.  Felt good overall.

Friday
PM Workout: Treadmill walk 2mi @ 15:00 per mi
Notes:  Got home late from work but still got my miles in and felt good after I was done.

Saturday

Notes: Time on feet is very important for Dopey and while it was tough to get done tonight, I did it.

Notes:  Supposed to be 17 miles today and I know how badly I need to do these miles, but I couldn't do it.  Not only did I let myself down, I let Rae down too as we were doing our miles together.

Training Notes
I am still fighting my mind.  This should have been a successful 17 mile long run week.  Instead it brought out my insecurities and doubts again.  I am not doing well being outside with humidity, but I was with good friends in great surroundings and I should have been able to do more.

At this point I'm seriously concerned about whether or not I will be able to complete the marathon in January.  No, I'm not giving up, but I'm going to have to fight extra hard for this one.

I'm trying to do better with food, but it's still hard for me.  It's just portion control that really eludes me.  Oh and let's not forget the stress eating.

Monday

Notes:  Felt sick all day and took the day off work.  Hard to get miles in, but managed time on the bike.

Tuesday
PM Workout:  Treadmill run/walk 1.81mi @ 16:34 per mi
Notes:  Still not feeling good, migraine and a strange rash on my arm.  Still managed to get a walk in even though it should have been a run day.

Wednesday
PM Workout:  Elliptical 1.02mi, ramp incline 40%, 20%, 10%, resistance level 1
Notes:  Still sick but on the mend, but having a weird allergic reaction that makes me itchy and tired.  Managed to get on the elliptical and get some time in.

Thursday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 213mi @ 14:05 per mi
Notes:  Still battling the migraine.  Tried to push myself a bit tonight.  I know I have to push more..

Friday
PM Workout: Bike 11.1mi, 14.9mph avg, varied resistance levels
Notes:  Did a programmed ride with varied resistance.  Felt good to work out off my feet.

Saturday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 3mi # 14:04 per mi
Notes: Great workout today.  I know I have a lot of work to do before Dopey.

Sunday

Notes:  A nice easy walk today.

Training Notes
This was not a stellar week.  I was feeling pretty bad the first part of the week.  I'm not sure what hit me, but it was a bit rough.  Still, I managed to workout and make some progress.

Goal Review
So, I set a goal for September - continue miles every day.  Didn't matter how many miles as long as I got up and moved.

I am happy to say that I met this goal. Even on travel days and days I didn't feel great I made myself move.  I'm happy with the miles, but I still feel like I'm not progressing as much as I should.

October 2013
I intend to continue the miles every day goal in October. In addition to getting miles every day, I need to keep working on increasing the length of time for my workouts when appropriate. I need to continue building endurance and strength.

I will continue to use the Galloway Dopey Training plan.  While I have to modify the plan for races, I will work on the weekly workouts and work on focusing on the long runs.

I would like to focus on my mental state as well.  I feel like I'm holding myself back and it's mostly in my mind.  I also need to learn to not doubt myself or dread time on my feet.

Notes:  Not to bad tonight.  It felt pretty good on the elliptical tonight.

Notes:  Not bad, some twinges in the left heel and right knee.

Notes:  A few left heel issues tonight.  Hoping it will be okay for the races this weekend.

Notes: The 5K is a trail run and I really don't do well on trails, but I just tried to enjoy and finish it up.  The 10 miler was not my best effort or all that enjoyable, but I'll save that story for another post.

Sunday

Notes:  A bit sore and tired so I just kept a nice slow walk today.
