Weekly Review: September 23 - 28, 2013

Here's this week's recap
Monday
PM Workout:  Treadmill walk 2.62mi @ 17:08 per mi
Notes:  Belle is doing better, but still a bit rough.  Still managed to get a good walk in.

Tuesday
PM Workout:  Treadmill run/walk 2.1mi @ 14:17 per mi
Notes:  Good run, but wish I could have gone longer.

Wednesday
PM Workout:  Bike 11.4mi, 15.2 mph avg, resistance level 3
Notes:  Got a good late workout in.  Belle is slowly doing better.  I am very worn out and tired though.

Thursday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.13mi @ 14:05 per mi
Notes:  A little faster tonight.  Left heel is a bit tight and my right calf, still didn't feel bad overall.

Friday
PM Workout: Elliptical 1.09mi, resistance level 1, ramp incline 10%
Notes:  I was unloading groceries from the car and somehow made my left heel just ache to the point I wasn't sure I could walk.  The elliptical didn't make it hurt worse and actually felt like it helped stretch it out a bit.

Saturday
PM Workout: Treadmill walk 3.0mi @ 16:55 per mi
Notes: No run/walk for me tonight.  The left heel is so acting up and it was hard to walk at first.  After a bit it did ease up and I was able to walk more normally.

Sunday
PM Workout: Treadmill walk 2.75mi @ 16:21 per mi
Notes:  Left heel is still sore, but not as bad today.  Lots of rest, ice, elevation, stretching and some Aleve have done wonders.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong lately, besides food that is.

Weekly Numbers:
Weight Watch: +0.4 pounds
Meh, still not putting forth my best effort here.

Run/Walk Miles: 12.60
Bike Miles: 11.40
Elliptical Miles: 1.09
TOTAL MILES: 25.09

Monthly Numbers
Run/Walk Miles: 57.35
Bike Miles: 60.70
Elliptical Miles: 4.14
TOTAL MILES: 122.19

Training Notes
The fun of stress and not having enough time to do everything you'd like to.  Still, Belle is doing better, she'll probably never be exactly perfect, but she's almost back to normal with the medicine - thank goodness  Her quality of life is good, she's not in pain, she just has to take medicine to prevent more seizures.

Training is up and down right now.  Some days I feel great and am really happy with the results of my workouts.  Other days I feel like I'm backsliding instead of moving forward.  I know that I just have to keep plugging along and do my best and that will help me to feel better about my workouts and results.

Food was all over the place last week. Least of my worries with everything else going on, but I know that's not an excuse. Let's face it, I've just been lazy in this part of my life.  I know that it is important and I'll do what I can to refocus my energy here.

2012 Mickey's Jingle Jungle 5K

I'll be perfectly honest with this one.  I was extremely ill during this race and didn't really know how sick at the time.  I thought about stopping more times than I care to admit even though it was only a 5K.  I barely remember the course, except for the few bad areas I had.

The day was cool which was a blessing for me.  I remember the boring parking lot before going in to Animal Kingdom.  The backstage areas of the park and being in the park were highlights for me.

The end of this race left me with a very difficult decision - do I try Wine and Dine Half or not?  I put off that decision as long as I could, but ultimately decided that it would not be smart to try to do the race.  I know that if I started I'd push to the end and I wasn't sure my body was up for that.

I finally found out a couple of weeks later that my decision to not do the race was the correct decision as I could have done serious harm to myself if I would have attempted it.  Still, not doing the half marathon was the first Disney race I had registered for and not completed, it was also the only runDisney race that I did not complete in 2012.  Needless to say, I was devastated to not reach my goal of doing all runDisney races in 2012, but I had to get over that and remember that long term health is much more important. 2012 Jingle Jungle 5K photo MiscRaceSwag102_zps9a5cdb0d.jpg

Weekly Review: September 16 - 22, 2013

Here's this week's recap
Monday
PM Workout:  Bike 7.2mph, 14.5mph avg, resistance level 2, 30mins
Notes:  I had a chance to spend the afternoon and evening in the Magic Kingdom so I got in quite a lot of walking and it wore me out, but I still came home and did my bike workout.  My legs felt like lead and I wasn't sure I would be able to do it, but I did.

Tuesday
PM Workout:  Bike 11.7mi, 15.7mph avg, resistance level 3, 45mins
Notes:  At times you have to deviate form the plan cause you're just not feeling it.  I got home and fell asleep on the couch - hmmm...body telling me something here.  I woke up pretty quickly and decided I'd better at least get some miles so I hopped on the bike for a good ride.

Wednesday
PM Workout:  Treadmill run/walk 2.12mi @ 14:09 per mi
Notes:  Great run/walk tonight - especially since I hadn't eaten all day.  I still felt good tonight.

Thursday
PM Workout:  Treadmill run/walk 3.17mi @ 14:11 per mi
Notes:  Good hard workout tonight. While it did wear me out I feel good about this workout.

Friday
PM Workout:  Elliptical 1.02mi, resistance level 1, ramp incline 30%
Notes:  Belle (one of my dogs) had a really bad seizure last night and just isn't acting right tonight, but not sure if she needs a vet visit yet. Managed to get some time in on the elliptical.

Saturday
PM Workout: Treadmill walk 4.0mi @ 15:00 per mi
Notes: Walked the miles today per the Galloway plan.  The walk felt good.  After the walk, Belle started having seizures again so off to her regular vet where she had to stay - her fever was 107, medicine controlled the seizures and we thought she was okay.  Went to pick her up and she was starting to seize again - off to the ER Vet to stay in the ICU over night full of medicine.

Sunday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.10mi @ 14:44 per mi
Notes:  Just don't have a lot in me today.  Belle is consuming my mind.  At least I got some time on my feet in.  I was able to pick up Belle later in the day and bring her home.  Not sure what the future will hold for her or if she'll have a future at this point, but it will be good to get her home.

Weekly Numbers:
Weight Watch: -2.4 pounds
Considering I didn't really do much right this week I'll take the loss and know it wasn't really because I did anything.

Run/Walk Miles: 11.39
Bike Miles: 18.90
Elliptical Miles: 1.02
TOTAL MILES: 31.31

Monthly Numbers
Run/Walk Miles: 44.75
Bike Miles: 49.30
Elliptical Miles: 3.06
TOTAL MILES: 97.11

Training Notes
Life often takes strange turns and we have to learn to deal with things that come up whether we want to or not.  This week was rough - especially the weekend while I was on call for work and then Belle got so sick.

I managed to get miles each day through all of this which wasn't easy, but it also helped me to deal with the stress and leave my worries for a few minutes each day.

Unfortunately, this was supposed to be back to back miles with a 13 mile long run and that just wasn't in the cards with everything going on.  My dogs are my kids and certainly take priority over miles when necessary.

This also makes me nervous because I know how important the long runs are in this training plan and I seem to not be able to do them.  The only thing that makes me feel a little better is that I fared okay during the Dumbo Double Dare and I have 100 days to get ready for Dopey.

Food was all over the place last week.  Least of my worries with everything else going on, but I know that's not an excuse.  Let's face it, I've just been lazy in this part of my life.

Weekly Review: September 9 - 15, 2013

Here's this week's recap
Monday
PM Workout:  Elliptical 1.02mi, 31mins, resistance level 1, ramp incline 25%
Notes:  Feeling a bit icky and strange today.  Still I hopped on the elliptical and got a good workout in.  Hopefully this not feeling good will pass quickly.

Tuesday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.12mi @ 14:09 per mi
Notes:  Happy Birthday to me.  Yep, I feel a year older today.  I just have to keep trying as I feel like I'm so far behind where I should be or want to be.

Wednesday
PM Workout: Bike 11.7mi @ 15.6mph avg, resistance level 3, 45 minutes
Notes:  Good bike ride.  I am hoping to boost my confidence somehow.

Thursday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.25mi @ 14:13 per mi
Notes:  A quality run/walk, but I need to improve my endurance.

Friday
PM Workout:  Treadmill incline workout 2.3mi @ 17:18 per mi, up to 4mph, incline 0-6%
Notes:  I feel like I cannot win right now, I am not happy with myself.  This was a pretty good incline workout tonight though.

Saturday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 3.0mi @ 14:26 per mi
Notes: While I did 3 miles, I just can't say I'm happy with things right now.  Got to get out of this funk.

Sunday
PM Workout: Treadmill walk 1.93mi @ 15:32 per mi
Notes:  I'm just going to have to keep plugging away and do what I can do and not be afraid of the miles.

Weekly Numbers:
Weight Watch: +4.2 pounds
Geez, that's just ridiculous.  No one to blame but myself.

Run/Walk Miles: 11.61
Bike Miles: 11.70
Elliptical Miles: 1.02
TOTAL MILES: 24.33

Monthly Numbers
Run/Walk Miles: 33.36
Bike Miles: 30.40
Elliptical Miles: 2.04
TOTAL MILES: 65.80

Training Notes
Not a great week.  Mentally I've just found it's tough as I feel like I should be improving more and be getting faster and I'm just not.  I think I will need to remember that I can push myself, I won't break.  Physically it was tough this week too.  Some times things just don't come together, but I will push on and move forward no matter what.

I have good intentions with my food choices, but sadly I can't seem to stick with it.  I will have to keep working on it.

Weekly Review: September 2 - 8, 2013

Here's this week's recap
Monday
PM Workout:  Bike 11mi, resistance level 3, 56:15 minutes
Notes:  So sore today, but once I got on the bike I started to feel loose and better so I just kept going.  It was a good feeling working out sore and after two back to back races.

Tuesday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.04mi @ 14:55 per mi
Notes:  Random intervals today.  Took a while for my knees to ease up and be comfortable.  Just did random intervals and felt pretty good.

Wednesday
PM Workout: Bike 7.7mi @ 15.6mph avg, resistance level 3, 30 minutes
Notes:  Yes, I travelled back across the country today and still I came home and got a bike ride in.

Thursday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.08mi @ 14:25 per mi
Notes:  Legs swollen and knees sore today, but the run/walk felt good so I went with it.

Friday
PM Workout:  Elliptical 1.02mi, resistance level 1, various ramp inclines, 30 minutes
Notes:  Feel good that I got the workout in, but can't say I loved it while I was doing it.

Saturday
PM Workout:  Treadmill run/walk 1.26mi @ 19:33 per mi, 24:39mins, 3.0mph, incline up to 4.5%
Notes: Just not feeling my best today.  I had no energy and just couldn't get myself going.  Should have done more miles, but I had to listen to the body and stop early.

Sunday
PM Workout:  Treadmill walk 2.04mi @ 17:08 per mi
Notes:  Still not 100%, but better than yesterday.  Nothing fancy, just a nice steady walk.

Weekly Numbers:
Weight Watch: N/A
No weigh in since I was traveling.

Run/Walk Miles: 7.42
Bike Miles: 18.70
Elliptical Miles: 1.02
TOTAL MILES: 27.14

Monthly Numbers
Run/Walk Miles: 21.75
Bike Miles: 18.70
Elliptical Miles: 1.02
TOTAL MILES:  41.47

Training Notes
It's always a challenge to stick with it after races, but I did that and I'm very happy about that.

I'm not happy that I didn't get all the miles I hoped for, but I'm trying to give myself some slack.  I know I need to recover and listen to my body when it just doesn't have it in it.

I also know that I have to get better about doing the long miles.

August 2013 Wrap Up

Weight Watch: -2.6 pounds
It's better than nothing, but let's face it, still not a focus for me.  I know, I know - it should be.

Mileage Watch:
Run/Walk: 63.71 miles
Bike: 45.85 miles
Elliptical: 4.64 miles
Total Miles: 114.20 miles

Goal Review
So, I set a goal for August - continue miles every day.  Didn't matter how many miles as long as I got up and moved.

I am happy to say that I met this goal. Even on travel days I made myself move.  I'm happy with the miles, but I feel like I'm not progressing as much as I'd like to.

September 2013
I intend to continue the miles every day goal in September. In addition to getting miles every day, I need to keep working on increasing the length of time for my workouts when appropriate. I need to continue building endurance and strength.

I will continue to use the Galloway Dopey Training plan.  While I have to modify the plan for races, I will work on the weekly workouts and work on focusing on the long runs.

One other thing I need to focus on is remembering that every step is a step in the right direction.  That while I don't feel like I've improved enough or fast enough, I am improving.  A positive attitude will go a long way in conquering the upcoming races.

Weekly Review: August 26 - September 1, 2013

Here's this week's recap
Monday
PM Workout: Elliptical - 1.01mi, 31 minutes, resistance level 1, ramp incline 15%
Notes:  Nothing to exciting about this workout tonight, but it was a good workout.

Tuesday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.06mi @ 14:33 per mi
Notes:  Starting to stress a little bit about the races this weekend.  Still an okay workout tonight.

Wednesday
PM Workout: Bike 7.9 mi @ 15.9mph avg, resistance level 3, 30 minutes
Notes:  Good bike ride tonight and I still have to pack for California.

Thursday
PM Workout: Treadmill run/walk 2.08mi @ 14:54 per mi
Notes:  How about this - I flew from Orlando to California checked in to the hotel and went to the gym to workout.  Very proud of myself for that.

Friday
PM Workout:  Bike 7.15 mi, resistance level 4, 30 minutes
Notes:  Managed to get a good bike ride in even with all the walking around and waiting around at the expo.

Saturday
PM Workout:  Disneyland 10K - 6.38mi @ 14:39 per mi Garmin Time, 6.2mi @ 15:03 per mi Chip Time
Notes: Super hot and humid this morning.  Did 1min run/1min walk intervals pretty much the whole time.  Even though I pushed harder than I was going to, I was still super slow.  All the weaving has made the right knee a bit sore.

Sunday
AM Workout:  Disneyland Half Marathon - 14.33mi total, 13.41mi @ 15:25 per mi Garmin Time, 13.1mi @ 15:47 per mi
Notes:  Again, super hot and humid this morning.  I was a bit sore from yesterday and decided early on to walk the race.  The heat hit me pretty hard around mile 10 and mile 11 was the worst of all.  I was still pleased to make it under the 3:30 time limit, but I'm sad that the conditions weren't better so that I could have tried to get a better time for corral placement for Dopey.

Weekly Numbers:
Weight Watch: +.4 pounds
As usual I struggled here.

Run/Walk Miles: 24.85
Bike Miles: 15.05
Elliptical Miles: 1.01
TOTAL MILES: 40.91

Monthly Numbers
Run/Walk Miles: 14.33
Bike Miles: 0.0
Elliptical Miles: 0.0
TOTAL MILES: 14.33

Training Notes
It was an interesting week this week.  I stuck to my plan to get miles every day, even when I had to get ready to pack up for California and the new Dumbo Double Dare challenge.

Of course, I had to modify the Galloway plan to accommodate the races, but I feel good about what I did in terms of the plan.

The weather was a huge challenge for the Dumbo Double Dare - it was hot and humid both race days.  Yes, I live in Florida now, but no I haven't trained outside in the humidity so it's still hard on me.  I decided on the morning of the 10K to push on that race since I knew the heat would be tougher during the half.  I'm really glad I did that - while I was still slow I feel like I did a pretty good job and it was the first race in a long time that I actually did run/walk.  The half marathon was fun, even if I didn't get to do what I had wanted to do.  It was such a change from how bad I felt last year that it really didn't matter that I was so slow.
